"The Battle of Atlanta" - The massive painting (four stories tall, 358 feet in circumference, weighing over 9,334 pounds) depicting the battle of Atlanta. A museum with a collection of Civil War artifacts, weapons, displays, maps and photographs. The Texas, one of the steam locomotives used in the Great Locomotive Chase in April, 1862. Fernbank Museum isn’t just another museum—it’s a journey to another time and place. With distinctive special exhibitions, there’s always something NEW to discover. Historic Oakland Cemetery ~ Grant Park Established in 1850, Oakland's 88 acres is an outstanding example of the "rural garden" cemetery of the Victorian era and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. "The Sights, Symbols, & Stories of Oakland" is a 90 minute guided tour given on Saturdays and Sundays exploring the period gardens, history, customs, architecture, and art that give Historic Oakland Cemetery its distinctive character. This tour is also available during the week to groups of 10 or more, half price tickets for the group may be purchased one day in advance at the AtlanTIX booth. The Children's Museum of Atlanta ~ Downtown The mission of Imagine It! The Children's Museum of Atlanta is to create environments and activities where young children experience the power of imagination and the pure delight of learning with each other and with grown-ups. The museum is ideal for children age 8 and younger. Remember, all grown ups must be accompanied by a kid, and all kids must be accompanied by a grown up. Hours: Mo-We 10:00am-4:00pm; Th 11:00am-4:00pm; Fr 10:00am-4:00pm; Sa-Su 10:00am-5:00pm AtlanTIX Price: $9.78 Special Note: The museum is ideal for children age 8 and younger. Rhodes Hall ~ Midtown Rhodes Hall is known as "Atlanta's Castle On Peachtree". Built in 1904, Rhodes Hall is one of the last remaining larger scale houses that originally lined Peachtree street. Constructed of Stone Mountain granite in the Romanesque Revival style, it was designed by one of Atlanta's best architects (Willis F. Denny II) for one of its richest men (Amos G. Rhodes, founder of Rhodes Furniture). Even in 1904, it was virtually one of a kind and has statewide significance for the quality and style of its architecture. Little changed from its original appearance, Rhodes Hall is an Atlanta landmark of the first order. Road to Tara Museum ~ Jonesboro This Gone With the Wind Museum is located in the Jonesboro Welcome Center. The world's largest permanent "Gone With the Wind" exhibit. Hours: Mo-Fr 8:30am-5:30pm; Sa 10:00am-4:00pm AtlanTIX Price: $5.55 Wren's Nest ~ West End The Wren's Nest was the residence of Joel Chandler Harris, author of the Uncle Remus Tales, from 1881 to 1908. The house became a museum in 1913 and today retains all of its original Victorian charm. The Wren's Nest provides guided tours that feature restored rooms complete with antique furniture, books, stained glass, and decor original to the Harris family. Every Saturday at 1:00 pm the Wren's Nest Ramblers tell their favorite Brer Rabbit stories to visitors. Hours: Tu-Sa 10:00am-2:30pm AtlanTIX Price: $6.20 Zoo Atlanta ~ Grant Park A wild time awaits you! Zoo Atlanta is home to nearly 700 individual animals from around the world and provides them with naturalistic environments that simulate their native land.
